Stearman Airplane Company
In 1924, Wichitan Lloyd Stearman had gone to Venice, CA, to do movie stunt flying. Upon his return to Wichita in 1927, a group of Wichita business leaders pledged $60,000 operating capital to form Stearman Airplane Company in Wichita. In June 1930, construction began on a new $400,000 plant on South Oliver which later became part of Boeing’s Wichita plant. This C3B was the first airplane built by Stearman upon his return to Wichita.
